Time: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
In order for people to improve their emotional skills and abilities, they must first be able to recognize their strengths and identify areas in which they may require improvement. This begins with a self-assessment and improves with feedback from others who know you. The purpose of an assessment and workshop is to create a structured discussion about the important components of emotional and social functioning.
As a result of this course, participants will:
- Discover the major components of emotional intelligence
- Recognize the behaviors and characteristics of an emotionally intelligent person
- Identify areas of your life where emotional intelligence skills can be applied
- Learn about your own emotional strengths and growth opportunities
- Generate action steps they can take to improve their emotional and social abilities and their own success
Participants will learn about their emotional and social functioning and increase understanding of how these factors can impact their lives.
Participants will complete an assessment to gain insight into the level of functioning of their requisite EI skills. Through exercises, activities, reflection, and dialogues, participants will gain an understanding of their skill sets and design self-directed development plans for enhancing their EI skills.
Dr. Brenda Webb Johnson is a military dependent has lived in several states, Taiwan, and Guam. She has lived in Tampa with her family for the past 15 years. Dr. Johnson received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. She received a Master's Degree in Public and Urban Affairs concentrating in Non-Profit Management from Georgia State University, a Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia and recently completed her Ph.D. in Adult Education from the University of South Florida. Her dissertation at USF was titled “Understanding and Applying Emotional Intelligence: A Qualitative Study of Tampa Veterans Administration Hospital Employees. She is in her 26th year with the Veterans Health Administration and currently serves as the Education Coordinator for the National Center on Homelessness among Veterans. Prior to this role she worked as a training specialist for four years focusing on leadership development interpersonal skill development for employees.
