Description:  This course examines the crime of identity theft and how it affects privacy for consumers today. Identity theft can occur through a cyber attack, email, malicious software or other methods. The focus of this training is to provide consumers with a foundational understanding of identity theft prevention and protection methods and what actions are needed if an identity has been compromised. The goal of the course is to increase awareness and promote continued vigilance in securing their identity and maintaining privacy. 

Instructor:  James B. Lewis, PhD, Information Security Expert

Dr. James B. Lewis joins The Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education at Hillsborough Community College as an Adjunct Professional Development Instructor. Dr. Lewis received his Ph. D. from Nova Southeastern University in Information Security, his M.B.A. in Information Systems Management from Dowling College, and his B.S. in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

James’s primary research and teaching interests are in the field of information security, cyber security, and information systems. He has developed several training modules and courses on virtualization and various IT software solutions.
