Supplies: If you already have watercolor supplies, please bring them.
Paints - Watercolors may be purchased in tube or cake form. Blick Art Supply on Westshore Blvd. Offers a complete selection of watercolor supplies, and they recommend Grumbacher brand paint sets. Michael’s offers several sets, such as Reeves Introduction to Art watercolor set (tubes) or Artist’s Loft 36-color cake set.
You can also purchase individual tubes of Winsor & Newton or other brands of watercolors, and you should include the following basic hues:
- Cadmium red
- Cobalt blue
- Hooker’s green
- Cadmium yellow
- Chinese white
- Lamp black
(Feel free to add additional ones if you go this route.)
Brushes - Blick recommends the Princeton Watercolor brush set. Michael’s American Painter brushes are reasonably-priced, decent-quality brushes. I suggest purchasing a set or if you want to buy individual brushes, get one each of the following types: wash, round, flat, filbert, angular flat, and fan, as well as two brights, one large and one small.
Paper - It is recommended to use a watercolor pad to begin painting—individual sheets of paper can be used later. Strathmore makes a variety of sizes, and depending on availability, 11 x 15 is best. Both stores should have several choices.
Miscellaneous:
- Palette or plate for mixing colors (if not included in painting set)
- Masking tape
- HB-4B drawing pencils
- Kneaded and gum erasers
- Masking liquids: can include Liquid Watercolor, frisket or rubber cement
- Plastic cup for water (one that won’t tip over)
- Paper towels
Refund Policy: Refunds, Cancellations & Substitutions
